Benefit Advocate
Benefit advocates can make a
dramatic impact on their client’s
quality of life. Many adults, particularly
older adults on fixed incomes, struggle
to meet their daily living expenses.
When the cost of living rises, they are
often forced to go without one necessity to
afford another. Trained and bonded benefit
advocates at LifeSpan can assist these
individuals to find and apply for outside
services that can lighten their financial
burden, such as Medicaid, prescription drug
assistance or food stamps.
Nearly 95 percent of those clients
seeking the help of a benefit advocate are
able to reduce their cost of living, typically
by more than $200 a month. Of those who
only seek assistance paying for prescription
medications, more than 90 percent are able
to reduce their prescription drug costs,
typically by nearly $400 a month.
Qualified participants include:
- ESP (Elderly Services Program) clients
in Butler and Warren Counties when an
ESP care manager makes a referral.
- Those older adults who are not eligible
for ESP service yet need assistance and
have enough financial resources to pay
privately for the services of a benefit
advocate.
Oxford Family Advocate
Limited incomes and
transportation have combined to
isolate many residents of the Miami
and Oxford Mobile Home Parks in the
Butler County community of Oxford.
With the support of a generous benefactor,
LifeSpan offers the services of its Oxford
Family Advocate program to work with
community members to improve the
quality of their lives. This program began
in 2004 and through collaborations with
numerous community organizations has
linked hundreds of mobile home families to
solutions and services.
The services of the Oxford Family
Advocate are free to the residents of the
Miami and Oxford Mobile Home Parks.
The family advocate can link residents to
numerous resources including:
- Home repair services
- Utility payment assistance
- GED programs
- Head Start services for children
- Medical and prescription drug
assistance.
